Eli Chandler of Pensacola, Fla. has acted as Page throughout the Battle of Mobile Bay re enactment. Chandler is no stranger to the job, having re enacted for almost 31 years. But playing the character of Page is particularly special to Chandler.General Page was the first cousin of Robert E. Lee, and Chandler said after some research he found out he's a distant cousin of Robert E. Lee.With family ties and a love for re enactment, Chandler took on the role with gusto. "He risked being captured, sailing all the way over to the fort when the bay was in the hands of the Union, to see what was going on to try to keep Fort Gaines from surrendering," Chandler said."He realized, once they surrendered over there it was going to make his position that much more vulnerable and they'd be able to concentrate all their forces against him."Page told the next of command to arrest Colonel Anderson for disobeying orders, but Chandler said almost all of the officers conspired to surrender.
